The purpose of this course is: to learn the difference between a normal and abnormal swallow, to understand the differences between various texture types and fluid consistencies, to recognize the importance of oral care and hydration, to discuss challenges with assisting residents at mealtimes and strategies for improving intake and to identify when to refer to Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Registered Dietitians (RDs) in long-term care homes.
